Milling of the Poplar Trees
The school district purchased a portable mill two years ago for all of the schools to use. The versatility of this mill is efficient for small jobs and allows all schools an opporunity to mill a log. As seen in the following photos the students unload the truck full of freshly cut wood, and place it on the portable mill. It requires brute force and caution in loading the portable mill. After the freshly cut wood is secured on the mill, the students guide the saw across the top of the wood in a steady manner to prevent any waves in the wood thereby squaring off the log. They lower the saw in 2 inch incraments and then cut another piece off of the trimmed wood.
