Visitors are invited to the 100th birthday celebration weekend for Samson No. 25, BC Forest Discovery Centre’s steam locomotive, June 26th and 27th in Duncan, BC.  “An amazing variety of steam equipment will be at the museum for Samson’s birthday bash in June,” says Vicki Holman, Manager of the museum.  “Expect to see century-old steam cars, trucks, and other operational machines as well as our own collection of steam artifacts.”  The event promises to be fun for all ages and will feature children’s steam activities, and old-fashioned games.

The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 26th and Sunday, June 27th from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Activities such as narrated antique vehicle parades, children’s activities, and birthday cake ceremonies will be taking place throughout the weekend.

“Exhibitors from all over BC will have their steam equipment on display here during Samson’s birthday party,” says Mrs. Holman.  “The event will be a fun kick-off to the summer for everyone, from steam enthusiasts to families."

The BC Forest Discovery Centre is looking forward to officially unveiling its Mann Steam Wagon at the event, after more than a decade of restoration efforts.  “The Mann Wagon has been in the museum’s collection since the 1960s,” says Aimee Greenaway, Curator of the museum.  “Thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers and community sponsors, the Mann Wagon is restored to operating condition and is ready to show a new generation of visitors how steam technology works.”

The BC Forest Discovery Centre is a 100-acre, open air museum with an operational railway, located in Duncan, BC on Vancouver Island.  The Centre features forest and marsh trails with excellent bird watching opportunities. The story of BC's forest industry is shared through exhibits, heritage buildings, and logging artifacts.  Special events are offered throughout the year, including family activities and workshops for adults and seniors.  For more information, visit www.discoveryforest.com  or phone (250) 715-1113.
