9th Annual Environmental Mind Grind Competition
BC Championships- May 3, 2008
The 9th annual Terasen Gas Environmental Mind Grind B.C. Championships took place May 3 at UBC-Okanagan's Kelowna campus. A total of 13 high school, eight middle school and eight elementary school teams from Kamloops and the North, Central and South Okanagan faced off to test their knowledge about all things green. The objective of the contest is to help kids learn about local environmental issues and get them and their families motivated to live more sustainably.
Organizer Eve-lyn Wolters, from the Regional Waste Reduction Office commented, “All the games were really close and fast-paced and were exciting to watch, but probably most impressive was the amazing amount of information these kids learned. I think all the adults watching the games were in awe.”
Partners in Environmental Education who organized the Terasen Gas Environmental Mind Grind include the , the Council of Forest Industries, Central Okanagan Regional District Waste Reduction Office, the City of Kelowna Environment and Transportation Divisions, Regional Parks and Recreation Services, Terasen Gas, Water Smart, the Regional Districts of North and Central Okanagan, Okanagan Similkameen, and the Cities of Kamloops and Quesnel.
