Forestry Week Fire Presentations- Spring 2008
This year's Forestry Week lesson, "The Fire Story- an Unpredictable Truth" offered students a chance to learn about wildfire, how it can affect the forest and what can be done to minimize its risk. The lesson was presented by volunteer forest professionals in April and May to elementary schools throughout the Southern Interior. With the potential impact in BC's Interior of the MPB epidemic and the ongoing potential for drought, this year's title was an excellent topic to remind students of the danger that wildfire can have on our communities. Teachers, students and the forestry presenters had a great time!! It was gratifying to see that, even though the industry is feeling great pressures at this time, there were still many personnel willing to help out. There were over 40 volunteers in the Okanagan-Columbia who reached more than 5500 students!! A big “thank-you” to all of the presenters for volunteering their time to make this effort a success once again!!
