Forest Educator, Nancie Dohan, leads a Grade 2 class from Brent Kennedy School on a forest walk, as part of the school's Earth Day week in April.

Elementary schools in the West Kootenay have been receiving presentations celebrating National Forest Week over the last month. This year's lesson, "The Amazing Diversity of BC's Forests" reached 2000 students across the region.

Other recent forest education activities in the West Kootenay include a forest walk with students from Brent Kennedy as part of the school's Earth Day celebrations and a forestry careers booth at the Kettle Valley Youth Forum held at Grand Forks Secondary May 5, where many young people enjoyed stopping by to discuss industry opportunities.

It is hoped that the forest education van will be back in the West Kootenay for a fall tour, visiting local elementary schools and community events.
