Amazing Diversity of BC's Forests"

Once
again, our National Forest Week presentations have been a big success. This
year's lesson plan was developed by Susan Bondar, Debbie Bazett
and Kalon Nahachewsky and focused on some of the main forest types
in the Southern Interior of BC. Forest specimens and visuals were
used to help teach students about our local dry Forests, wet forests,
pine forests and high elevation forests.

Many
thanks to the many, many forestry personnel and volunteers who,
as always, were there to help us out!! In the Okanagan-Columbia,
from Golden to Osoyoos, we visited approximately 7500 students
with 53 volunteer presenters. This is incredible!! We
couldn't do this "blitz" without our volunteers! I
know the other educators feel the same way. In total, over
13,000 students and teachers received presentations throughout
the Cariboo, Thompson, West Kootenay and Okanagan-Columbia. As
a result, we all know a little more about the various forest
types that exist in BC's Interior.
NOTE :
- The lesson will go up on our website, www.learnforestry.com later
this spring.
- The
official week for "National Forest Week" has moved
to September, but our event is very large and takes a lot
of preparation and scheduling, so we will continue to celebrate
in the spring. just before teachers start taking their students
outdoors to explore their environment.
