Field Trips and Class Presentations:
- The senior outdoor education class at
Okanagan Mission Secondary School in Kelowna received a presentation
on common forest health issues in BC. They had the opportunity
to examine specimens of Bark Beetles, Gall rust, Mistletoe and
other Insect damage.
- Oyama Traditional School hosted
a speaker on the Mountain Pine Beetle, learning about the life
cycle of the bark beetle and tree anatomy.
- The forestry class at
Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School in Westbank went on
a timber cruise field trip. Randy Hardy, Chris Gilbert and Bryan
Darroch from Gorman Brothers Lumber volunteered, bringing along
their equipment and expertise, which helped make the field
trip a great success. In late May, this class will be visiting
the Tolko Mill in Kelowna to complement their unit on Wood Manufacturing.
- In June, the French school at McNicoll Park
in Penticton will be helping the City plant trees along Penticton
Creek. Students from grades 4 - 7 will be replacing some of
the old and diseased trees with new poplar and ponderosa pine
seedlings.
