Newsletter
Letter from the Publisher
This is the 4th edition of
the Learn Forestry News. The first
edition was a team effort involving Deb Bazett (COFI), Jennifer
Stewart (Tolko) and myself (Okanagan-Columbia Forest Education/Learn
Forestry). Jen and I eventually put the first publication together
but since that time, Deb Bazett has taken on the workload of
contacting everyone and formatting their submissions. I still
help with the editing, but the brunt of the work is done by Deb
B. This is a large undertaking, for which I greatly appreciate
her time and efforts.
Our newsletter has grown to include articles and
information from a variety of sources throughout BC and, at times,
other parts of Canada and the USA. It is wonderful to hear about
the exciting forestry-related activities that are taking place
through the efforts of so many keen educators.

Southern Interior forest educators at Jan. 2006 ForestEDWest
II in Banff |
Speaking of "keen forestry educators",
a number of them have been meeting biannually at the ForestEdWest
conference.
The last two conferences took place in Banff and were planned by
Steve McIsaac (Inside Education), Alex Drummond (University of
Alberta) and their wonderful crew of volunteers who worked hard
to unite forest education across western Canada .
In
January 2008, the 3rd conference is coming to BC. I am co-chairing
the event along with Sandy McKellar (Wood Manufacturing Council).
With the help of Steve and Alex, as well as some of our closest
friends and colleagues, we will endeavour to match the "style,
class and enthusiasm" of the first two conferences. Please check
out www.forestedwest.ca for
future details. We will be looking for sponsorship and guest speakers,
so if you feel so inclined, please contact
me.
I hope you enjoy our latest newsletter and
a special thank-you to the contributors. Without you, we would
have much less to share!
