West Kootenay Highlights
Nancie Dohan (Forest Educator)

As the forest educator for the West Kootenay zone, Nancie delivered 45 presentations to over 2,400 students during April and May for National Forest Week. The presentations were well-received and the teachers and children gained valuable information – kids are very interested in bugs, and the mountain pine beetle samples thrilled them.

High school presentations on ‘Careers in Forestry’ were delivered at some of the high schools in the area. Students appreciated the informative video, talk and discussion.

Look for the Forest Education Van in the West Kootenay at the Slocan City Loggers Sports Show on July 9th , and the Pass Creek Fall Fair September 22 -24. The van will be touring schools in September as well. A professional development date has been set for the end of September to introduce teachers to forestry issues, combined with a field trip.

Nancie has found her new position as forest educator to be exciting and challenging over the past six months and she has enjoyed meeting many of the company representatives. She looks forward to contacting everyone in September for the start of a new school year!!
