Career Events in the Okanagan:
Pleasant Valley Secondary School: Aboriginal
Spotlight Career Fair February 10, 2005
The Aboriginal Spotlight Career Fair was a great success.
This career fair provided the senior aboriginal student population
from District# 83 the opportunity to interact with numerous aboriginal
organizations, educational institutions, and potential employers.
This was a great opportunity to educate and encourage students to
consider a career in the forest industry.
Forestry Career Day: Science and Technology Careers in Forestry
March 3, 2005
One hundred and fifty grade 9/10 students from the
Central Okanagan school district participated in this event. All
of the students had an opportunity to hear three presentations in
the general areas of: woodlands, forest health, and manufacturing.
Nine presenters, all of whom work in different areas of the forest
industry, did an excellent job of informing the students about their
personal jobs and other possible careers in the forest industry.
Students left having a better awareness of the career options that
are available to them.
Springvalley Middle School: Career Day
March 11, 2005
Over two hundred grade 7/8/9 students from Springvalley
Middle School in Kelowna participated in a large-scale career day.
There were numerous presentations on a wide range of careers. Two
foresters presented to six different groups on exciting opportunities
in the forestry industry. Students received information on a variety
of careers in the forest sector and the education requirements for
those career choices.
