Professional Development Day: “Forestry- A Coastal Experience”
February 17-19, 2005

This was the first pro-d day where teachers from Vernon, Revelstoke and Kamloops were taken down to the coast to learn about the career opportunities related to the forestry industry. Some coastal teachers joined the group in touring BCIT’s trades facility and learning about the forestry programs offered at this institution. The whole group then spent the afternoon in BCIT’s woodlot observing and talking to forestry students who were working in the bush. The day concluded at UBC’s research forest in Maple Ridge, where the group observed an “open air mill”, followed by short presentations from Steve Finn (BCIT), Steve Baumber (UBC) and Sandy McKellar (WMC/CFB) on the vast career opportunities in the forest industry.
