VIU & European Students Tour Okanagan
Wolfgang Beck- Forest Health Technician, Okanagan Shuswap Forest District
On October 1, 2008, second year forestry students from Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina University College) , along with instructors Michel Vallee and Jim Wilkinson, five students from Europe and a municipal forester from Beijing, spent a day in the Okanagan Shuswap forest district as part of their field trip to the BC Interior. Visiting four sites in the Hidden Lake, Trinity Valley area, the focus of the day was forest health issues in the district.
Leading the tour were Heather Rice R.F.T, Forest Health Officer and Wolfgang Beck, Forest Health Technician, both with the Okanagan Shuswap Forest District.

At Baird Lake, shown above, the group visited a trial site for white pine and discussed the selection and breeding of white pine resistant to white pine blister rust.
