UBC Forestry Faculty Hosts "Forestry 101" for
Teacher Pro D
The UBC Faculty of Forestry is hosting
a Professional Development Day for secondary science teachers on
Friday, April 28, 2006. The
workshop will run from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm and is free of charge,
with refreshments and lunch provided.
Entitled "Forestry-Science Made Practical", the
day will include 'Forestry 101', a general presentation on forests,
ecology, current events in BC forestry (forest fires, mountain
pine beetle), use of wood products and a discussion on careers
and the educational opportunities available in the Faculty of Forestry
at UBC. There
will be two workshops led by faculty members linking secondary
school learning outcomes with forestry examples. The day
will end in nearby Pacific Spirit Park, with a faculty member
leading the group on a walk through the coastal rainforest. If
you are interested, or would like more information, contact Lesley
Fettes at 604-827-5195 or by email at lesley.fettes@ubc.ca.
