School Activities: “The Clarence Fulton Wetlands Centre of Excellence” (Vernon)

Teachers at Clarence Fulton Secondary in Vernon are in the early stages of developing programs involving students in a local wetland project. This project is intended to get students more actively involved with an environmental stewardship project and to educate them on how to help enhance, protect, and preserve wetlands.

The wetland that is to be enhanced and developed is on land adjacent to Vernon Creek at Clarence Fulton Secondary School. Some of the activities that the students may be involved in include: planting vegetation around ponds, moving in logs for turtle basking, building nesting platforms, birdhouses, a boardwalk, and monitoring the ponds’ development over time.

The supporters of this initiative are: School District #22, Greater Vernon Parks and recreation, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Green Street, Kerr Wood Leidal, Summit Environmental Consultants and Land and Water British Columbia.
